Have a say on ‘Greek’ precinct

GREEK organisations and the community are being urged to have a say on a proposed Greek precinct in Marrickville and Dulwich Hill.

The Greek community has had an enormous impact on everyday life in the Inner West. In the 1960s, Greek was commonly spoken on the streets and there was high demand for authentic Greek products and experiences.
An Inner West Council spokesperson said the precinct would celebrate this rich history and the many ways in which Greek people shaped the Marrickville and Dulwich Hill area, including through businesses, churches, theatre groups and a vibrant cultural life.
The engagement will explore three key questions: What is an appropriate name for the precinct? What are key sites of Greek heritage that will create our boundary for the precinct? How can we identify and showcase the precinct?
Anyone who has connections to the area or has Greek heritage, is invited to take part in this project, with participants providing feedback and sharing stories in a format that suits them best.
Council staff will review all feedback before making a recommendation for the council’s consideration.
Everyone who provides input will be contacted when the council considers the recommendation.
