Hosted by Cumberland Council’s Youth Development Team at The Holroyd Centre, the Youth Mental Health Summit will be a great opportunity to hear from mental health professionals through a question and answer panel.
The summit will be held on Tuesday, February 28, 9.30am-4.30pm, and attendees will hear from organisations such as STARTTS, Dolly’s Dream, NSW Police and Cumberland Hospital Mental Health Team as well as young people.
STARTTS Youth Program Team Leader Lina Ishu will be discussing the benefits of the Be Well program which is designed to strengthen the ability of community members to talk about mental health issues.
“Mental health has been a taboo subject for too long,” she said.
“Our Be Well program features a holistic approach with sessions to inform and empower parents, peer support for high school aged children and even accidental counselling training for those aged over 18 so they can offer immediate support to anyone seeking it.
“The day will be a good opportunity for anyone working in the youth mental health area as well as young people who are interested or want to contribute and don’t have work or study at that time.”
