Time to have ball

FOOTBALL fever will grip Sydney with thousands of fans converging on Sydney Olympic Park on Thursday, with the Matilda’s kicking off the FIFA Women’s World Cup at Stadium Australia.

Sydney will be hosting 11 FIFA Women’s World Cup matches for a month from Thursday, with five games to be played at Stadium Australia at Sydney Olympic Park, including the Final match.
The 64-game tournament starts with the Matildas taking on Republic of Ireland at Stadium Australia on Thursday from 8pm, and although there will be additional public transport services, fans have been urged to plan ahead and take public transport, while motorists are asked to be mindful of potential delays.
Significant traffic delays are expected, particularly on weeknight games during the already busy evening peak so motorists should allow plenty of extra travel time on roads approaching Olympic Park on match days and ticket holders should catch public transport.
Minister for Transport, Jo Haylen, said Sydney was prepped and ready to welcome local, interstate and internationals football fans to cheer on their teams in the heart of our city.
“Months of planning has gone into readying the public transport network for large crowds throughout the tournament so leave the car at home,” she said.
“The best way to get to and from matches is on public transport and to make it even easier your transport trip is included in your match ticket – simply show your ticket to transport staff when boarding services on your way to and from the games.”
