Allegedly tried to burn murder victim’s vehicle

DETECTIVES investigating gang-related murders and other serious crime under Taskforce Erebus, arrested a man, 44, in Georges Hall over his role in the alleged 2014 murder of Youssef Assoum in Bankstown.

About 12.15am on Friday, December 11, 2014, Bankstown Police were called to Claribel Street in Bankstown after reports of a stabbing.
Upon arrival, police located the 29-year-old man suffering a gunshot wound to his thigh and several lacerations to his head.
An off-duty doctor rendered assistance to the man before the arrival of paramedics, who rushed him to hospital in a critical condition, where he later died.
The 44-year-old was charged with accessory after the fact to murder.
Police will allege in court that the man attempted to burn and destroy Youssef’s vehicle at Lansdowne.
Last month, a 42-year-old man was charged after being arrested at Edgecliff. He remains before the courts.
