Angie bowls way to Sydney Sixers

BANKSTOWN Sports Women’s Cricket Club star Angelina Genford will return to Sydney after scoring a place on the Sydney Sixers squad in the upcoming Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL) season.

The 19-year-old made her WBBL debut last season for the Hobart Hurricanes but will relocate home where she has made a name for herself in Premier Cricket and the NSW Pathway system, for this year’s Big Bash.
Genford made her debut for the NSW Breakers last summer, playing a solitary match, in which she recorded figures of 0-14 (4 overs) with the ball, before top scoring with 45 not out, batting at number 10.
It was in that batting innings, with wickets tumbling at a rate of knots, that Genford gave the surest indication of her composure and undoubted talent – so much so that she secured her first full-season domestic contract with the ACT Meteors.
Genford was on a pre-season training camp when she received the call that the Sixers were keen to chat.
“It really came out of the blue,” she says of the offer.
“I didn’t have a WBBL contract so the call came at a good time.
“I’m pretty excited. The Sixers are such a well-known club with some big names that I’m looking forward to playing with.
“I’ve played club cricket at Bankstown with Erin Burns and Ash Gardner and I also played most of my pathways cricket with Stella Campbell and Jade Allen so I am looking forward to playing with them again.”
The Sydney Sixers season kicks off against Brisbane Heat on Thursday, October 13, from 7.40pm with home games on November 16, 18 and 20.
