Having sparred with the likes of Jeff Fenech, Kostya Tsyzu and Azhuma Nelson as a professional boxer before turning his skills in the ring towards his business, Paul said he knew Boxercise would be a success.
“So many people would ask me in my boxing days, ‘can you train me’ and this is where I got the idea,” he said.
Since his business began, Paul has five former students who now run their own classes, four that have taken up professional boxing and a couple who met on the workout in the early years and are still happily married.
“It’s a great feeling keeping the local people and beyond very fit, it’s very important people stay healthy to enjoy a long, happy life,” he said.
Costing just $15 an hour at Revesby YMCA, now re-named Bankstown City or the Bankstown Y, the Boxercise classes are undergoing a restructure to mark the quarter of a century milestone.
“It will be a whole new workout and when you walk out, you can say, ‘I just did 10 rounds’,” he said.
“It’s going to be awesome.”
