Newtown’s Kelly Wallwork (pictured) says her work, called ‘Wrapt You New Town’ is a comment on waste and recycling and is made of collaged paper and card, sewn onto backing card or fabric.
She describes the waste as a “continuous landscape that abounds in the Newtown precinct”.
“At a distance it will look like a punky, colourful landscape of hills, under a pendulous sky of cumulus clouds. It will look beautiful, promising, threatening,” Kelly said.
“I’ve been making smaller versions in card form for years, which I sell at Newtown Markets occasionally.”
Inner West Council’s ArtSeat is a permanent structure in Newtown Square that provides local, emerging and established artists with a space where experimental and non-commercial art can be showcased.
Incorporating public seating and lighting, the Art Seat is also a landmark meeting point.
