Heroic woman rewarded

OVER 400 people have attended the St John 2019 Annual Award Ceremony to celebrate the heroic actions of those who have used critical first aid, with Croydon Park Sandra Holley winning one of 24 ‘Save a Life Awards’.

Ms Holley was on her way to work when she noticed a stationary vehicle at a set of traffic lights with the driver slumped over the steering wheel.
After checking for danger, Sandra lowered the driver’s seat, unblocking his airways and soon after the driver began to breathe on this own.
Sandra is to be commended for taking complete control of the situation, remaining calm and applying her first aid knowledge to save the life of a local person.
Speaking about the awards, St John CEO, Sarah Lance said: “Today we celebrate the extraordinary actions of those who have used critical first aid to save or sustain the life of another person.
“We have heard some truly inspiring stories from St John volunteers and members of the public that shows just how important first aid is.
We congratulate our Save a Life Award recipients for 2019 and thank them for their outstanding contribution to their communities.”
Each year, more than 3,000 highly skilled St John volunteers provide around 180,000 hours of first aid and health services at over 5,000 community events and emergencies across NSW.
