Shortly after 11am, a 30-year-old man was leaving a gym nearby and walking to his vehicle when an unknown man wearing a balaclava approached him and forced himself inside the 30-year-old’s vehicle.
The 30-year-old started driving away and the pair wrestled inside the car for a short time, before the vehicle then crashed into the front window of a fast-food restaurant at The Boulevarde at Punchbowl.
Both men fled the scene prior to police arrival, before the 30-year-old returned a short time later.
He was assessed at the scene by paramedics however he did not require hospital treatment.
Campsie Police have established a crime scene and commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Initial inquiries suggest three men – all wearing balaclavas – were seen fleeing the scene in a white van.
