Sick Hull still runs seventh fastest

BANKSTOWN Sports Athletics’ Jessica Hull has produced one of the bravest performances of her stellar career to finish in seventh place at the World Track and Field Championships held in Eugene, Oregon, last week.

Prior to the final, Hull was considered a legitimate Bronze Medal contender behind all-time greats, Faith Kipyegon from Kenya and Ethiopia’s Gudaf Tsegay.  Terrible luck was to befall Hull who became ill the evening prior to the race, with a positive Covid test diagnosed post-race.
Notwithstanding this significant set-back, she summoned the energy to run 4.01.82 in what is now being described as the greatest Women’s 1500m Final in history.
Another Bankstown Sports Athletics’ star Edward Trippas made a promising debut at the World Athletics Championships.
Competing in one of Track and Field’s most difficult events, the 3000m Steeplechase, Trippas ran a highly impressive 8.23.83 to place sixth in his heat.
Already the holder of the third fastest time in Australian history at 8.19.60, the future looks extremely encouraging for the 24-year-old Tokyo Olympian who now has his sights firmly set on the upcoming Birmingham Commonwealth Games.
