Passionate about teaching water safety skills, Padstow’s C & M Aquatic Centre staff swung into action last term, providing school holiday workshops to increase children’s safety knowledge in and around water.
C & M Swim School co ordinator Clotilde Doxaras says their fun, interactive workshops included students rescuing each other after their canoe ‘capsized’, along with being able to perform lifesaving techniques fully clothed and basic CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation).
“The children learnt about conducting lifesaving rescues using noodles, ropes and kickboards,” she said.
“We taught them about the currents, rips and swimming in different waterways, along with sun protection and Australian marine life and their dangers.”
She said all participants got a lot out of the workshops and wanted to know when the next would be held.
“As a community, we all need to work together in rebuilding swimming and water safety knowledge and skills to prepare for this summer and prevent dangers in and around water,” she said.
“We hope the lessons we give them will stay with them for the rest of their lives.”
The next Intensive Swim Program & Workshop starts on Monday, January 9, or call to book your child into swimming lessons this term on 9774 2297.
