Canterbury writer and director, Billy Cotsis has just completed his latest book, ‘Once Upon a Time in Crystal Palace’, his fourth since 2016.
Similar to his short film satires in 2010, the book is centred on a fictional Greek Aussie called Phillipos, an out of form player in London who was born and bred in Canterbury and is likely to return home, having been deemed a flop.
The Greek Aussie and his buddies are navigating a range of problems, egos, domestic violence, gambling and the meaning of heart and friendship.
They are joined by Jamal who is their struggling captain; he has to hold the egos of his team together when Palace suddenly appoints a woman, Fernandinha, as an assistant manager.
There is also an appearance of a character who is based on Sydney Olympic star striker footballer Alex Sanchez.
His brilliance on the pitch at Belmore is described in the book; he brings his form to the ailing team after receiving a ‘call’ when at training at Belmore Sports Ground.
As a patriotic Lesvian, Billy makes his usual references to Lesvos and also found a way to mention Mytilenean House in Canterbury.
‘Once Upon a time in Crystal Palace’ will be available via Amazon from the end of October, with the official launch on Sunday, November 17, at the Greek Bilingual Bookstore, Hurlstone Park.
